Check-in, Move-out, & Packing FAQ's

What should I pack?

Our suggestion, travel lightly! Make your move easy and give yourself a chance to adjust to your living area. You will quickly learn what you want for your room.

We suggest the following basics:

  • Sheets, mattress pad to fit an extra-long twin mattress
  • Comforter, Pillow
  • Towels
  • Toiletries
  • Toiletry carrier (these are helpful as personal items should not be stored in the bathroom)
  • Shower shoes/flip flops
  • Storage containers
  • Flashlight
  • Desk lamp
  • Fan (rooms are not air conditioned)
  • Bulletin board and/or white board
  • Posters, pictures to personalize the room
  • Trashcan
  • Laundry basket
  • Iron/ironing board
  • Alarm clock
  • Computer/laptop
  • UL approved surge protector
  • Telephone
  • Stereo
  • Television
  • Any personal items you might need

Apartment residents should bring kitchen supplies, microwave.

We suggest that roommates confer with each other regarding what they plan on bringing.

How do I order twin extra-long linens?

You may order twin extra-long linens online through our partner, Residence Hall Linens, and arrange for them to be shipped directly to your home or to campus.

Is there anything I should not bring?

Because of fire insurance regulations, as well as health and sanitary requirements, the following items are not permitted on-campus:

  • Toaster ovens, hot plates or any appliance with an exposed heating element
  • Microwaves are prohibited in the residence halls and towers, except for the Micro101 "Cool~Wave"
  • Candles and barbecues
  • Electric heaters, halogen lamps, and window-mounted air conditioners
  • Any animal or pet, including fish

Can I send my luggage before I arrive?

Luggage and other belongings can be shipped to Pepperdine University's Mail Services up to thirty days before you arrive. Mail Services will not deliver any shipped item. All belongings must be picked-up at Mail Services during regular business hours. We encourage you to have items, such as sheets with you in case you are not able to go to the mail services office on the day of your arrival.

When may I check-in to housing?

Please refer to our Housing calendar for dates and times as check-ins are dependent on your school, program, or session.

May I check-in early?

No, unfortunately you may not check-in early or drop off any of your belongings before the assigned check-in time.

What is the process for moving-out during the semester? How long do I have to remove my belongings?

Students have 48-hours to completely remove all of their belongings. Students requesting an exception must e-mail the Housing Office from their Pepperdine account to request an extension. If applicable, room and/or board charges will be prorated once the key has been returned and a walkthrough of the living area has been completed.

At the end of the term, when do I move-out?

Students will check out with their Resident Advisor (RA). Please review the Housing calendar for your specific check-out date.

May I be released from my housing contract during the academic year?

No. Housing contracts are for the academic year. Students who graduate in December, and those participating in a Spring International Program, will be released from their contracts without penalty.
