The University has selected Pepperdine Canvas to replace our previous LMS, Courses/Sakai. The last day to access Courses/Sakai was May 31, 2026. The service is no longer available for community access.
Overview
"Courses" (powered by Sakai) was a former Pepperdine University learning management system (LMS). Piloted in 2009, the service was adopted in 2011, replacing Blackboard Learn. The Sakai LMS served Pepperdine well for over 15 years, offering a suite of tools to meet most teaching and learning needs. In 2023, Pepperdine initiated an LMS Study and ultimately chose Pepperdine Canvas as Pepperdine's next LMS, effective Fall 2025.

Pepperdine University wants to share its gratitude to the Sakai LMS and its vibrant global community. Sakai served Pepperdine well for over 15 years. During that time, Pepperdine is proud to have contributed to this powerful learning management system, from sponsoring feature enhancements, contributing to documentation efforts, and participating in multiple events.
While we have transitioned to another platform, we are grateful to Sakai and its international community of users and institutions.
