Graphic Artist Job Description

Definition and Purpose:

The Graphic Artist reports to the Student Manager for PR/Marketing and Outreach. The Graphic Artist is responsible for creating and supporting the graphics needs for Campus Recreation's promotional and collateral materials. The team of designers must be creative while still delivering a consistent "look" in the design, layout, artwork and color for all promotional materials including brochures, flyers, posters, logos, advertisements, T-shirts, etc. Graphic Artists should have a strong graphics background and be interested in the various programs and services of Campus Recreation. Individuals in this position need to be self-motivated, able to work with minimum supervision and able to receive feedback and modify projects to satisfy the customer. Additionally, Campus Recreation employees are expected to provide a safe, enjoyable, service-oriented environment for customers/participants at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend all meetings, workshops and retreats for the overall planning of the Campus Recreation department
  • Provide a friendly, upbeat and service-oriented environment at all times
  • Ensure a safe environment for all participants and clients
  • Work with the various programs and services in creating graphic promotional materials
  • Prepare graphics for flyers, posters and brochures
  • Coordinate photography assignments
  • Design various T-shirts for areas within Campus Recreation
  • Plan and implement advertising layouts
  • Communicate and establish working relationships with various campus and community agencies
  • Must be able to adhere to established project deadlines
  • Graphic artists are expected to be efficient with multi-tasking and time management
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours

Preferred Work and Extra Curricular Experience:

  • Awareness of safety concerns and risk management
  • Ability to provide positive and responsive customer service
  • Awareness of, and appreciation for, individual uniqueness and diversity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Website design

Required Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience in creation of original artwork
  • Desktop publishing skills
  • Experience in working with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXPress, and Adobe InDesign applications
  • Portfolio will be required at the time the interview is scheduled

Education:

Must be a currently enrolled student at Pepperdine University in a minimum of 6 units. All Campus Recreation student staff must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 during employment. Graduate students must carry 4 units/3.0 GPA.

Period of Employment:

Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the Employee may resign at any time and the Employer may discharge Employee at any time with or without cause.

Compensation and hours:

Pay range -- class status, (Federal Work Study and Pepperdine Work Study encouraged). Maximum 10-20 hours per week.
