New Residence Hall - Summer Infrastructure Work

5/18/16

Non-invasive utility prep work for the new residence hall project has progressed well over the past 10 days in the FFH parking lot. Additionally, the contractor's staging area in the Upsilon parking lot has been set up.

We have received two of the three permits required for the work this summer. While we await approval on one outstanding permit (related to the sewer work in the FFH parking lot), we are adjusting the sequence of our work as follows to take advantage of the two approvals obtained.

Utility location work is underway now near Residence Halls 22 (Morgan) and 23 (Dewey), in the area highlighted below. We anticipate starting more invasive work in this area next week, which will include the removal of several trees and the installation of new underground utilities. Once this works starts, it will continue for approximately 5 weeks. Crews will not start work until 8am to minimize disruption to residents in this area.

Residence Halls 22 & 23 Impact Area

Work in the FFH lot will continue next week, as crews begin selective excavation work to confirm the locations of several critical existing utilities as shown below. Trenching and installation of new underground utilities in the FFH lot will begin once we have our final regulatory approvals in place.

Soon thereafter, work will begin in the Upsilon parking lot and on Huntsinger Circle between the Upsilon parking lot and the Soccer Field, as highlighted below. Similar to the work in the FFH parking lot, this effort will include trenching and installation of new underground utilities. Traffic control on Huntsinger drive will be necessary at times, and we will provide advance notice of this impact.

We will provide periodic updates on our progress throughout the summer, as well as additional information regarding the dates that we anticipate working in each of these areas. All infrastructure work planned for the new residence hall project will be complete in advance of the Fall 2016 semester.

We welcome any questions and look forward to ongoing collaboration with our community as construction activity builds on campus this summer and continues through 2018.
