Student Employment | Hiring a Student

Steps to Hiring Student Employees:

  1. Ensure that you are able to hire a student worker (obtain approvals when needed)
    • Fulltime Faculty may hire
      • one Research Assistant (RA) for 10 hours per week
      • one Teaching Assistant (TA) per course for 6 hours per week
    • Adjunct Faculty may hire one Teaching Assistant (TA) per course for 6 hours per week with the approval of the Associate Dean
    • Grants allow for the hiring of
      • Graduate Assistants (GA) for 19.75 hours per week
      • Research Assistants (RA) for 10 hours per week
    • Clinics may hire
      • Graduate Assistants (GA) for 19.75 hours per week
      • in special circumstances, Research Assistants (RA) for 10 hours per week
  1. Identify, interview and select a student worker by either
  1. Follow-up with those students who applied but were not offered a position.
  2. Once the candidate has accepted the job, report the hire in PepPro
  3. Once GSEP Student Employment Office has received the direct hire agreement or direct hire report, we will determine if the student needs to complete hiring requirements. The student will be invited to complete a New Student Employee Orientation which includes completing the Form I-9, Form W-4, and GSEP Student Employment Policies. The GSEP Student Employment Office will communicate directly with the student to complete these requirements and will keep you apprised of the application's status.
  4. You will be notified by Student Employment once the student has been hired and can begin working. Students may not begin working prior to receiving this notification.
