Department Spotlight on Application Development

Department Spotlight

On March 27, 2014, the Pepperdine newspaper, the Graphic featured a story titled Why isn't one of the top ten national college majors offered in full at Seaver? In the story, Graphic News Editor Falon Opsahl called in to question why Pepperdine does not have a full computer science major despite it's growing popularity for students across the nation.

After reading this article, Chief Information Officer Jonathan See had the eureka moment of, "Why doesn't IT partner with the Natural Science Division to create an internship program for computer science students to use what they've learned in their coursework, apply it in solving real business-world problems and produce greater efficiencies across the university, all before they graduate?"

Working with the Student Employment office and IT's AppDev team, IT has accepted two Seaver students and one student worker for this fall term. These students will work directly with AppDev to assist with important university projects.
