This page provides instructions for Apple iPad users at Pepperdine. The information below provides instructions on how to register an iPad on the Pepperdine network as well as troubleshoot some frequently encountered problems with internet registration.

Registering Your iPad for Internet Access

Accessing the internet on your iPad is as simple as accessing the internet on any other portable computing device at Pepperdine. Users should connect to the "pepperdine" wireless network and utilize WavesConnect to register their iPad to their NetworkID.

Configuring Your iPad to Access Email

Click this link for more information on how to configure your iPad to access your Pepperdine email account. Although these instructions are for iPhone devices, following the same instructions will configure your iPad to access Pepperdine's mail servers.

Zooming In or Out

When viewing photos, webpages, email, or maps, you can zoom in and out. Pinch your fingers together or apart. For photos and webpages, you can double-tap (tap twice quickly) to zoom in, then double-tap again to zoom out. For maps, double-tap to zoom in and tap once with two fingers to zoom out.

Typing

Depending on the app you're using, the intelligent keyboard may automatically suggest corrections as you type, to help prevent mistyped words.
Enter text:

  1. Tap a text field, such as in a note or new contact, to bring up the keyboard.
  2. Tap keys on the keyboard. If you touch the wrong key, you can slide your finger to the correct key. The letter isn't entered until you release your finger from the key.

Editing׃ut, Copy, and Paste

The screen makes it easy to make changes to text you've entered. An onscreen magnifying glass helps you position the insertion point precisely where you need it. Grab points on selected text let you quickly select more or less text. You can also cut, copy, and paste text and photos within apps, or across multiple apps.

  1. Position the insertion point: Touch and hold to bring up the magnifying glass, then drag to position the insertion point.
  2. Select text: Tap the insertion point to display the selection buttons. Tap "Select" to select the adjacent word, or tap "Select All" to select all text. You can also double-tap a word to select it. In read-only documents such as webpages, touch and hold a word to select it.
  3. Drag the grab points to select more or less text. Cut or copy text: Select text, then tap "Cut or Copy."

App Download Support

Using a code: From the computer- click redeem in the Quick Links box at the top right of the iTunes Store window. Then sync the iPad to add the app to the device.From the iPad- tap redeem at the bottom of the Featured list. Enter the code and download your app.

Using a URL: From the iPad- Just open the email and tap the link. Your app will automatically download to the device. From the computer- open the email and click the link to add the app to your iTunes library, and then sync the iPad to add the app to the device.

Free apps: No code or URL is required for free apps. Download and use free apps from the App Store just as you would normally.

Locating Serial number and Mac Address

Keep this information in a safe place. Should you ever lose your iPad this information may be helpful in tracking down your device.

  1. On your iPad, go to "settings" and tap on "General"
  2. Tap on "About" write down your "Serial Number" and "WiFi Address"

Erase All Content and Settings

You can manually erase all personal data and restore factory settings.

  1. On your iPad, go to "settings" and tap on "General"
  2. Tap on "Reset"

Completed Registration With No Success Message

This may be an issue with your iPad's settings. Your iPad has likely registered correctly. Follow the steps below to ensure that registration was successfully completed.

  1. On your iPad, go to "settings" and turn off your iPad's Wi-Fi.
  2. Leave your iPad's Wi-Fi off for two minutes. Turn your Wi-Fi back on.
  3. Select the "pepperdine" network.
  4. Open your browser and attempt to browse the web. If your registration was successful, you should be able to browse the web. If not, your iPad should redirect you to the WavesConnect registration page. If you are redirected to the WavesConnect page, try to reregister the device or contact Anytime Support at 310-506-HELP (4357) for further guidance.

Receiving "Client Already Registered" Message

Your iPad is registered on the network but is hanging on to its old network address. Follow the steps below to access the internet.

  1. On your iPad, go to "settings" and turn off your iPad's Wi-Fi.
  2. Leave your iPad's Wi-Fi off for two minutes. Turn your Wi-Fi back on.
  3. Select the "pepperdine" network.
  4. Your iPad should now be able to access the internet. Open your browser to browse the web.

Receiving "Authentication Failed" Message

This was likely caused by an input error with either your NetworkID or password. Go back to the WavesConnect page and try again, ensuring that all fields are properly entered. Note: Many of these errors are due to users substituting their campus wide ID number or email address in lieu of their NetworkID. Only your NetworkID will work for registering devices via WavesConnect.
