Eligibility and Contest Details

All currently enrolled Pepperdine students may enter Pepperdine University's National Cyber Security Awareness month contest to win one of 3 iPad minis. Students can review our "anti-phishing" skills training, then take a quiz. Successful completion of the quiz (100%) will take students to the next step, where the Pepperdine Information Security Office will send the student a copy of a real world phishing email -- one received by Pepperdine students from cybercriminals in the past. This phishing message, sent within approximately a week of successful completion of the quiz, is the real test of the "anti-phishing" skills.

Successful Contest Entry

A successful entry requires that the student receive 100% on the 5 question quiz and avoids clicking on the link inside phishing email. If a student  gets less that 100% or clicks on the phishing message, then the next business day, the information security office will email an invitation to try again.

Winners will be selected at random from the successful contest entries. Contest winners will be contacted and announced on Thursday, October 31st 2013. Students at the Southern California campuses will be given their prize at a photo session with the ISO team -- we'll come to you! We could not get the University to fly us to International Programs campuses, so, if an IP (or distance education) student wins, we just ask you send us a photo of you with your prize!

About Pepperdine Google Apps

Google apps is a tremendous collaboration tool and many students have already used it before coming to the University. Pepperdine University is a member of Google Apps for Education and our students, faculty and staff can all join our Google Apps domain for collaboration and even to receive Pepperdine email.

In order to verify your student status (and get your email so we can phish you) we needed to let you log in to our quiz. The easiest way to do that was put the quiz in a Pepperdine Google Apps form. At the moment Pepperdine Google Apps is an "opt in" service so you have to sign up. More information is available at the enrollment link for Google Apps. If you're having trouble, you might try signing out of your personal Gmail and quitting/reopening your browser before attempting to enroll. You can't take the quiz using your personal Gmail/Google Apps ID.
