End of Support for Windows 7 Operating System

What is happening?

Microsoft announced that it will stop providing updates for the Windows 7 operating system. Updates will end on January 14, 2020.

How does it affect Pepperdine students and Pepperdine guests?

For students and guests upgrades will not be mandatory, but we strongly encourage updating your personal devices running Windows 7 to Windows 10.

How does it affect Pepperdine employees?

Because lack of Microsoft support means Windows 7 will no longer be secure, Pepperdine University will not allow university-owned computers running Windows 7 to connect to the Pepperdine network after February 3, 2020.

All faculty and staff with a university-owned Windows 7 registered computer will be contacted by Information Technology (IT) via email. However, some devices may be registered incorrectly or not registered at all. Therefore, we encourage reaching out to your local IT support representative if you notice a Windows 7 computer in your work area.

To upgrade a computer

  • Contact your local IT support representative, or
  • Call 310-506-4357 to schedule a free upgrade to Windows 10, or

Should I replace my current Windows 7 computer?
