Founding Director - Rhiannon Bailard

Rhiannon Bailard

Rhiannon conducted the initial audit of the University's sustainability practices, which lead to the implementation of the University's sustainability policy and subsequent creation of the Center for Sustainability. She emphasizes the importance of going beyond intiatives to fully integrate sustainability into the University's core functions. Sustainability should not just be what we seek but indeed a part of who we are as a University -- something that is incorporated in every facet of the institution from operations to administration to curriculum to service.

As an associate vice president for Governmental & Regulatory Affairs, Rhiannon is also responsible for land use planning, environmental compliance, and governmental relations. She has served as adjunct faculty for the Graziadio School of Business & Management's Social Ethical & Environmental Responsibility ("SEER") Certificate where she created SEER Metrics: An Organizational Sustainability Framework. This course provides MBA students an opportunity to learn about every major aspect of organizational sustainability including definitions, assessment, value-creation, the 'why' with a specific emphasis on social justice, goal-setting, change management, and messaging.

Rhiannon is truly invested in the University as well as the local community. She serves as the Vice-Chair for business development affairs, including leading the environmental committee, for the Malibu Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, she is a mentor to undergraduate students through the Pepperdine Ambassador's Council, an advisor for the Seaver College Green Team, and a member of the Sustainable Business Council of Los Angeles. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder as well as a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Pepperdine University School of Law where she simultaneously acquired a Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the renowned Strauss Institute. In order to further  counsel the University on best practices, Rhiannon also holds her L.E.E.D. accreditation from the United States Green Building Council.

Coordinator - Emily Mead

She works directly with the Pepperdine Green Team and actively manages a number of sustainability projects and programs including the University's Recycling and Sustainable Commute Programs. She helped develop and oversee the sustainable behavioral campaign for Pepperdine's first green residence hall, the Eden Project. Emily is a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction and has two Bachelors degrees in Environmental Science and Environmental Studies from Lehigh University. She also holds a Masters degree in Environmental Policy Design, also from Lehigh University.
