Sakai Conference 2012

Sakai Conference 2012 Banner

For the past three years, Information Technology has invited faculty to attend the annual Sakai conference. IT is committed to partnering with faculty to improve student learning services here at Pepperdine. Part of this commitment includes inviting faculty to attend select educational technology conferences. In 2012 we're excited to invite five faculty to join our Technology and Learning group in Atlanta, GA. The annual Sakai conference is an excellent opportunity for professors to learn more about our primary learning management system, Courses (powered by Sakai). It also allows Pepperdine to champion improvements and to showcase our own contributions to the community.

What is the Sakai Conference?

The North American Sakai Conference is an annual event where the academic institutions and commercial partners of the Sakai community come together. It is a gathering of and for developers, instructional designers, faculty, administrators, and others to share success stories, highlight new advances, and collaborate on projects. This year is a special event. It's the first joint conference of the Sakai and Jasig communities. Jasig supports other core technologies that support higher education, such as the Central Authentication Service (CAS) which Pepperdine uses for single sign-on to various online systems, like Courses/Sakai,, library databases, iTunesU, and more.
