Open Apereo Sakai Conference 2014

2014 Open Apereo Sakai Conference

This June, Technology and Learning attended the Open Apereo 2014 conference in Miami, FL. The Apereo Foundation is the new organization that combines the Sakai and Jasig communities and produces enterprise-ready, open-source solutions for higher education. Pepperdine University uses both Sakai CLE and the Central Authentication Service (CAS).

At the conference, the Technology and Learning group contributed to several presentations: Varun Khanna of Technology and Learning presented in the pre-conference workshop on teaching with Sakai. Alan Regan and Dr. Stella Erbes hosted a session on teaching with Sakai for new faculty. Alan also organized as session called Sakai Course Design Showcase and contributed to two of the teaching and learning lightning talk presentations. Our former colleague, Keenan Kibrick, spoke on the topic of gamification in education.

Technology and Learning routinely invites Pepperdine faculty members to attend educational technology conferences, such as Open Apereo, as professional development opportunities as well as a chance to identify and share products and strategies to promote student learning. We would like to thank the following professors for joining us this year:
