President's Briefing Recap | August 3

The President’s Briefing Recap summarizes important information for the Pepperdine community shared during each President's Briefing. Here's what you need to know this month:

University COVID-19 Updates

Los Angeles County experienced a spike in COVID-19 cases in mid-July driven by the BA.5 variant. While case rates and hospitalizations peaked at the end of July, data indicates that positive cases are showing signs of slowing and hospitalizations appear to have plateaued. As University leadership continues to monitor conditions, community members are reminded of the following:

  • Pepperdine will require entry testing for all students 72 hours prior to arriving on campus for the fall semester in order to reduce the risk of transmission within the community. Students are required to complete the Entry Test Reporting Form and should take their entry test prior to arrival on campus, not at a COVID-19 testing site on any Pepperdine campus. Returning faculty and staff members are not required to test before arriving on campus for the fall semester.
  • The University’s COVID-19 vaccination policy remains in effect. All new students accessing any University campus or facility must upload proof of compliance by August 15, 2022, to indicate that they have been vaccinated or to claim an exemption for medical, religious, or philosophical reasons. All new faculty and staff must also notify the University of their current vaccination status by completing the COVID-19 Vaccination Notification Form.
  • >PCR COVID-19 testing sites remain open and free of charge on Pepperdine’s campuses. Testing remains optional for all community members. Face coverings are optional but encouraged for anyone who wishes to wear them indoors. All campus testing sites will continue to provide face coverings free of charge.
  • Faculty, staff, and students who have tested positive for COVID-19 must continue to report positive test results using the START Form. Test results received from the on-campus PCR testing sites are automatically uploaded to the Start form.

Campus Construction Update

Construction has commenced behind the Eddy D. Field Stadium to add 200 parking spaces (for a total of 300) and 30,000 square feet of storage for the University. Parking will be available in January 2023.

New Stotsenberg Track Scoreboard

A new scoreboard has been installed at the Stotsenberg Track thanks to the support of a fundraising campaign. The scoreboard will be ready and operational for the soccer season that begins later this month and will also be used to display movies during planned outdoor activities for the campus community.

Château d'Hauteville Update

The University looks forward to the completion of the Château d'Hauteville, Pepperdine’s new international campus in Vevey, Switzerland, in July 2023 with a grand opening planned to take place prior to the fall 2023 semester.

The Mountain at Mullin Park Parking Structure

Pending final approvals, construction of the parking structure at the Mountain at Mullin Park is set to break ground in January 2023 with an expected completion time of 18 months.

Athletics Update

Pepperdine Athletics won the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association All-Sports Trophy for the fourth time in the department’s history. The Waves earned points in six sports, including men’s golf, women’s tennis, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s volleyball, and women’s golf.

Founder’s Day 2022

The Pepperdine community is invited to attend the University’s annual Founder’s Day celebration on September 21, 2022, to commemorate the official opening of the academic year.

Pepperdine Worship Summit

The Pepperdine Worship Summit, which will return for the second year on Saturday, September 10, 2022, will feature performances by Dante Bowe and Aaron Moses of the Grammy Award-winning Maverick City Music, a cappella group United Voice Worship, and author and international speaker Christine Caine, who will inspire attendees through song and spoken word. Registration will launch early next week.

Step Forward Day 2022

The University’s annual Step Forward Day tradition will continue this year on September 10, 2022, to unite thousands of Pepperdine students, alumni, faculty, and friends around the world for an annual day of community service. This year, the community will have the opportunity to serve Frederick K. C. Price III Christian Schools located at the former Pepperdine campus in Los Angeles.
