Dee Dee Mayer Named Interim Chaplain

Tim Spivey, vice president for spiritual life, announced the appointment of Dee Dee Mayer as Pepperdine’s interim chaplain in the Hub for Spiritual Life, a role that provides dedicated spiritual guidance to our community. Mayer will serve in this role beginning Monday, September 16, 2024. Mayer will also continue to serve in her current role as the senior director of RelateStrong at the Boone Center for the Family, a role which she has held since 2022, in which she helps couples and individuals address conflict in relationships and teaches people how to take off their old selves and put on their new selves in Christ.

As interim chaplain, Mayer will be instrumental in cultivating a vibrant spiritual environment on campus that will strengthen our community as together we seek to embody and promote Pepperdine’s mission. Her responsibilities will include providing pastoral care, leading spiritual programs and services, and offering counsel and support to our community as she creates meaningful connections and ensures that our community’s spiritual needs are met with compassion and understanding.

Mayer holds a doctor of ministry degree from Azusa Pacific University and is a licensed clinical social worker in California. She has more than 20 years of experience providing organizational leadership and program management in academic and community health environments. Prior to joining the Boone Center team, Mayer served at Oaks Christian School in Thousand Oaks for 12 years in a variety of roles including associate head of school for spiritual life, Bible faculty, and spiritual life director. She is passionate about Jesus and His church to support leaders and congregations in developing strong and healthy relationships. She is a published author, a regular guest on national radio programs, and a sought-after public speaker.
