Department of Facilities Services

The Department of Facilities Services (DFS) maintains the buildings, grounds, and physical infrastructure of Pepperdine's campus. Our goal is to maintain and enhance the university's facilities so that they effectively serve the campus community and support Pepperdine's mission.

Areas of Service

We provide services to the community in the following areas:

  • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)
  • Landscaping
  • Lock Installation and Key Cutting
  • Painting
  • Pest Control
  • Plumbing

DFS is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and remodeling of the built environment, and for its condition assessment and renewal planning. The department also responds to emergency and urgent calls after normal business hours, on weekends, and during holidays. Management staff are supplemented by contractors who assist with immediate infrastructure repairs.

  • More than 29,000 work orders are issued per year
  • More than 1,000 requests are received annually for repair of window shades and blinds
  • Each year, DFS receives nearly 300 reports of University community members being too hot or too cold
  • DFS staff empty trash cans more than 367,000 times per year, which is more than 1,000 trash cans per day
  • On average, DFS receives the most calls about power outages in October, November, January, and Februar

Event Support

DFS works closely with Special and Event Services to provide a point of contact within the Facilities Management Department to bring together all the services for non-routine and major events on campus. This service helps such events as graduation, preview day, orientation, and campus visits.

Power Outages

Pre-Event Notice

Planned Power Outage scheduled for Wednesday December 26, 2018, from 7 AM to 7 PM, and Thursday, December 27, 2018, from 7 AM to 7 PM.

DFS is planning a power outage for a large portion of the Academic and Residential Facilities on the Malibu campus on Wednesday and Thursday December 26 and 27, 2018, between 7 AM and 7 PM.

This work is being conducted to perform maintenance on electrical systems, servicing a large portion of the University.

All of the areas listed will be without power during this time frame:

Residence Halls 1-21, Rockwell Towers, Seaside, Lovernich, HAWC, and Pier 18 will be affected.

Firestone Fieldhouse (and the pool), Ralph Straus Tennis Center, Heritage Hall, Harilela International Tennis Stadium, Eddy D. Field Baseball Stadium, Stotsenberg Track, Stauffer Chapel, Three A Switchroom, Stauffer Greenhouse, Tyler Campus Center, Amphitheater, Payson Library, Pendleton Learning Center, Pendleton Computer Center, Keck Science Center, Rockwell Academic Center, Appleby Center, Weisman Museum, Smothers Theater, Music Building, Elkins Auditorium, Cultural Arts Center, the Seaver Guard Booth, Alumni Park, Theme Tower, and the Waste flow Station. The electrical vehicle charging stations in the RHO parking lot (Lot J) will also be without power during this time. Parking Lots near the Chapel (Lot C), Theme Tower (Lot A), Seaver Main Lot, Parking Lots K, P, O, M, N, will be without power, during the outage

This outage has been scheduled during a relatively quiet period in December to minimize impacts to the community. Buildings with generators will have power during the outage.
