Upcoming Fall Recruitment

Panhellenic Fall Recruitment:

Did you know that nearly one in three undergraduate women at Pepperdine join a sorority? Participating in sorority recruitment in the fall is one of many ways to get plugged into campus, establish solid friendships, and personally develop into strong leaders. This first step to joining a sorority is to register for recruitment to learn more about sorority life and find your best match with the chapters. Pepperdine has seven National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities that participate in primary recruitment in the fall semester. The first day to register for Panhellenic recruitment is August 1, 2017!

Because we know that there are a lot of questions regrading Greek Life and it's role on campus, Panhellenic hosts "Pre-Recruitment" Events one week prior to formal recruitment to allow potential new members (PNMs) an opportunity to meet sorority women and ask questions about membership and commitments. Pre-Recruitment events are FREE, optional, and non-committal! Panhellenic highly encourages any woman who is even slightly interested in sorority life to come out to one of all of the Pre-Recruitment events. The events are below:

"Meet the Chapters" Night- Wednesday, September 6, 2017

The Waves Cafe, 9PM-11PM

The sororities will set up informational tables and talk with you one-on-one to answer your questions about membership, involvement, and opportunities. The Panhellenic Executive Board and recruitment counselors will also be present to help you register for recruitment.

"Dessert Night"- Friday, September 8, 2017

Alumni Park, 5PM-7PM

Start your weekend off with a sweet treat and another opportunity to meet more sorority members and fellow PNMs. There will be plenty of time to mingle and have fun to unwind from the second week of classes!

"PNM Orientation"- Monday, September 11, 2017

This meeting is mandatory for all women who have registered for recruitment at this point (unless there is class, scheduled work, or another standing commitment). Here registered PNMs will learn the details and schedule of formal recruitment as well as meet the staff, Panhellenic Executive Board, and the recruitment counselors. PNM Guidebooks will be distributed and recruitment groups will be for the first time together. Still undecided about registering and participating in Panhellenic recruitment? That's OK! The absolute last day to register for recruitment is Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 5PM! No exceptions can be made for this deadline. If you miss PNM Orientation, the Panhellenic Executive Board and Greek Life staff will catch you up to speed in time for formal recruitment!

Formal Recruitment

To join a sorority, a woman must be an undergraduate member or Pepperdine University and have registered and paid the recruitment fee of $30. PNMs should attend all recruitment events and keep an open mind throughout the recruitment process to have the best opportunities to join a chapter. Each day must be attended and PNMs must attend all scheduled events for each night. In the event of class, University commitments, or other previously scheduled conflicts, Panhellenic provided excuse forms to documents absences. Below is the Panhellenic recruitment schedule:

    • Open House I- Wednesday, September 13
    • Open House II- Thursday, September 14
    • Video Night- Friday, September 15
    • Philanthropy Night- Saturday, September 16
    • Preference Night- Sunday September 17
    • Bid Night- Monday, September 18

Still not sure if joining a sorority in the fall is right for you? That's perfectly fine too! Pepperdine has so many opportunities to explore, some women wait a semester (or even a year or two before making the decision to go Greek. During spring semesters, some chapters hold informal spring recruitment to build their membership. Ask the Greek Life Coordinator about spring recruitment opportunities!

National Pan-Hellenic (Divine Nine) Recruitment Dates:

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, most commonly known as the "Divine Nine", is a national council of nine historically African-American Greek-letter organizations. Pepperdine is proud to host two NPHC chapters, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. While the chapters honor their proud heritage, membership into the NPHC is open to all students who are interested in the organization. To be eligible to join Alpha Kappa Alpha or Alpha Phi Alpha, a student must have completed one semester of college credit and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher. First-year students are first eligible spring semester and returning sophomores through seniors may join in the fall.

Come by HAWC 112 for more information about their membership intake processes!

Interfraternity Council (IFC) Recruitment

Pepperdine's Interfraternity Council (IFC) is a council of nationally recognized fraternities that are dedicated to service, campus involvement, academic excellence, and philanthropy. With one in for men Greek-affiliated, our fraternity makes up a vital part of the campus. Wondering if Greek membership is for you? Register for IFC recruitment starting August 1, 2017 and attend "Meet the Chapters" Night on Thursday, September 21, 2017 to visit with all five IFC chapters and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated to see the similarities and difference between each group.

Fraternity recruitment is casual but all men MUST be registered and pay the $10 recruitment fee to receive a bid at the end of the recruitment process. IFC recruitment takes places both on and off campus with different activities such as pick up basketball, go-karts, beach days, the driving range, and lots of free food. But with all of these activities, the most important aspect of recruitment is talking to the brothers and determining whether their chapter values align with your own. All fraternity potential new members (PNMs) must attend at least two different chapters' events to exercise an open mind within the fraternities. You can visit as many chapters per day as the schedule allows and you can attend as few or as many events as you like. See the IFC recruitment schedule below:

  • Thursday, September 21, 2017- "Meet the Chapters" Night
  • Friday, September 22- Thursday, September 28, 2017- IFC recruitment events (open to all PNMs)
  • Friday, September 29, 2017- Interview Night (chapter invitation only)
  • Saturday, September 30, 2017- Preference Night/Dinner (chapter invitation only)
  • Sunday, October 1, 2017- Bid Night (chapter invitation only- bids given out)
  • Tuesday, October 3, 2017- Bid Signing Day (all PNMs must come by the Greek Life Coordinator's office in the HAWC to accept a bid)
