Fraternity & Sorority Life
Welcome to the Pepperdine Fraternity & Sorority Life Home Page! This resource is your avenue to learning more about the FSL community here at Pepperdine. Our community is a progressive and dynamic group of eight sororities and five fraternities across three national councils dedicated to living lives of "purpose, service, and leadership." Pepperdine Fraternity & Sorority Life's core values are: scholarship, leadership, friendship, philanthropy, community service, spiritual development, and personal growth.

Nationally-recognized chapters were chartered as early as 1995 at Pepperdine University where local chapters and social clubs were encouraged to identify and become adopted into a national organization. We receive many inquiries from alumni/alumnae of Seaver asking which chapter their group transitioned into. To the best of our knowledge these are the transition pairings (from records maintained from the Pepperdine Libraries):
|Local Chapter/Social Club||National Chapter|
|Delta Tau Omega sorority||Alpha Phi|
|Kappa Psi Delta sorority||Delta Delta Delta|
|The Anchor||Delta Gamma|
|Sigma Tau Alpha||Gamma Phi Beta|
|Theta Alpha Phi sorority||Kappa Alpha Theta|
|Zeta Kappa sorority||Kappa Kappa Gamma|
|Pi Gamma Phi sorority||Pi Beta Phi|
|Xi Kappa Sigma||Sigma Kappa (dormant)|
|Beta Phi Alpha fraternity||Beta Theta Pi (deactivated)|
|Lambda Omega Sigma fraternity||Psi Upsilon|
|Tau Rho Sigma fraternity||Sigma Phi Epsilon|
|The Shield||Sigma Chi|
|Sigma Psi fraternity||Sigma Nu (deactivated)|
Since the national transition, Pepperdine has welcomed four additional chapters to date:
|New Chapters Chartered|
|Alpha Tau Omega fraternity - 2007|
|Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - 2012|
|Delta Tau Delta fraternity - 2012 (deactivated)|
|Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. - 2017|

Fall 2022 Recruitment
Panhellenic Fall Recruitment:
Did you know that almost 30% of undergraduate women at Pepperdine join a sorority? Participating in sorority recruitment in the fall is one of many ways to get plugged into campus, establish solid friendships, and personally develop into strong leaders. This first step to joining a sorority is to register for recruitment to learn more about sorority life and find your best match with the chapters. Pepperdine has seven National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities that participate in primary recruitment in the fall semester. The first day to register for Panhellenic recruitment is August 1, 2022! If you're undecided about registering and participating in Panhellenic recruitment, that's OK! The absolute last day to register for recruitment is Monday, September 12, 2022 by 11:59 PM! No exceptions can be made for this deadline.
Because we know that there are a lot of questions regarding sorority life and its role on campus, Panhellenic hosts "Pre-Recruitment" Events one week prior to formal recruitment to allow potential new members (PNMs) an opportunity to meet sorority women and ask questions about membership and commitments. Pre-Recruitment events are FREE, optional, and non-committal! Panhellenic highly encourages any woman who is even slightly interested in sorority life to come out to one of all of the Pre-Recruitment events on either Wednesday, September 7, 2022 or Friday, September 9, 2022.
To officially join a Panhellenic sorority, a woman must be an undergraduate member or Pepperdine University and have registered and paid the recruitment fee of $20. PNMs should attend all recruitment events and keep an open mind throughout the recruitment process to have the best opportunities to join a chapter. Each day must be attended and PNMs must attend all scheduled events for each night. In the event of class, University commitments, or other previously scheduled conflicts, Panhellenic provided excuse forms to documents absences. Below is the Panhellenic primary recruitment schedule:
- Open House- Friday, September 16
- Sisterhood Night- Saturday, September 17
- Preference Night- Sunday September 18
- Bid Night- Monday, September 19
Still not sure if joining a sorority in the fall is right for you? That's perfectly
fine too! Pepperdine has so many opportunities to explore, some women wait a semester
(or even a year or two) before making the decision to go Greek. During spring semesters,
some chapters hold informal spring recruitment to build their membership. Ask the
Fraternity/Sorority Advisor about spring recruitment opportunities!

National Pan-Hellenic Council (Divine Nine) Recruitment Dates:
The National Pan-Hellenic Council, most commonly known as the "Divine Nine", is a national council of nine historically African-American Greek-letter organizations. Pepperdine is proud to host two NPHC chapters, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. While the chapters honor their proud heritage, membership into the NPHC is open to all students who are interested in the organization. To be eligible to join Alpha Kappa Alpha or Alpha Phi Alpha, a student must have completed one semester of college credit and maintain a C+ average or higher for their GPA. First-year students are first eligible spring semester and returning sophomores through seniors may join in the fall or spring applicable terms.
Each chapter will advertise their own intake (recruitment) events so be on the look out for flyers and advertisement!
Come by HAWC 112 or email the Fraternity/Sorority Advisor for more information about their membership intake processes!
Interfraternity Council (IFC) Recruitment
Pepperdine's Interfraternity Council (IFC) is a council of nationally recognized fraternities that are dedicated to service, campus involvement, academic excellence, and philanthropy. With one in five men fraternity-affiliated, fraternity life makes up a vital part of the campus. Affiliated with the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), students can join four of the member organizations at Pepperdine.
Wondering if fraternity membership is for you? The IFC chapters will hold primary recruitment in fall 2022. Register for IFC recruitment starting August 1, 2022 and pay the $20 registration fee. Fraternity recruitment is casual but all men MUST be registered and pay the recruitment fee to receive a bid at the end of the recruitment process. The final day to pay and register for recruitment is Friday, September 16, by 11:59PM! No exceptions will be made to this deadline!
IFC recruitment takes place both on and off campus with different activities such as pick-up basketball, go-karts, beach days, the driving range, and lots of free food. But with all of these activities, the most important aspect of recruitment is talking to the brothers and determining whether their chapter values align with your own. All fraternity potential new members (PNMs) are strongly encouraged to visit as many chapters' events as possible to exercise an open mind within the fraternities. You can visit as many chapters per day as the schedule allows and you can attend as few or as many events as you like. See the IFC recruitment schedule below:
- Thursday, September 8, 2022- IFC BBQ Pre-Recruitment
- Friday, September 16, 2022- PNM Orientation and Open House
- Saturday, September 17- Thursday, September 22, 2022- IFC recruitment events (open to all PNMs)
- Friday, September 23, 2022- Final Impressions Night- The final opportunity to express your interest in membership with fraternities before invite-only events in an open house fashion
- Saturday, September 24, 2022- Interview Night (chapter invitation only)
- Sunday, September 25, 2022- Preference Night/Dinner (chapter invitation only) & Bid Distribution
- Monday, September 26, 2022- Bid Signing Day (all PNMs will be sent an electronic bid form if they are invited to join a fraternity to accept a bid)
Still not sure if joining a fraternity this semester is right for you? That's perfectly fine too!
