Our History

Nationally-recognized chapters were chartered as early as 1995 at Pepperdine University where local chapters and social clubs were encouraged to identify and become adopted into a national organization. We receive many inquiries from alumni/alumnae of Seaver asking which chapter their group transitioned into. To the best of our knowledge these are the transition pairings (from records maintained from the Pepperdine Libraries):

Local Chapter/Social Club National Chapter
Delta Tau Omega sorority Alpha Phi
Kappa Psi Delta sorority Delta Delta Delta
The Anchor Delta Gamma
Sigma Tau Alpha Gamma Phi Beta
Theta Alpha Phi sorority Kappa Alpha Theta
Zeta Kappa sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Gamma Phi sorority Pi Beta Phi
Xi Kappa Sigma Sigma Kappa (dormant)
Beta Phi Alpha fraternity Beta Theta Pi (deactivated)
Lambda Omega Sigma fraternity Psi Upsilon
Tau Rho Sigma fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon
The Shield Sigma Chi
Sigma Psi fraternity Sigma Nu (deactivated)

Since the national transition, Pepperdine has welcomed four additional chapters to date:

New Chapters Chartered
Alpha Tau Omega fraternity - 2007
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - 2012
Delta Tau Delta fraternity - 2012 (deactivated)
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. - 2017

Our desire with this website is for you to learn what it means to be a Pepperdine fraternity or sorority member. In the end, we believe you will find a community full of men and women dedicated to making a positive impact on Pepperdine's campus.
Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can assist you in any way.

Sincerely,
FSL Staff

Fall 2023 Recruitment

Panhellenic Fall Recruitment:

Did you know that almost 30% of undergraduate women at Pepperdine join a sorority?  Participating in sorority recruitment is one of many ways to get plugged into campus, establish solid friendships, and develop leadership skills.  Pepperdine's seven National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities participate in formal recruitment in the fall semester.  To join a Panhellenic sorority, a woman must be a Pepperdine University undergraduate and register for formal recruitment (including a $20 recruitment fee).  Registration opens August 1, 2023 and closes Monday, September 4, 2023 by 11:59 PM.  No exceptions can be made for this deadline.

Because we know that there are a lot of questions regarding sorority life, Panhellenic hosts Pre-Recruitment events one week prior to formal recruitment to allow potential new members (PNMs) an opportunity to meet sorority women and ask questions about membership.  Pre-Recruitment events are free, optional, and non-committal. Panhellenic highly encourages any woman who is even slightly interested in sorority life to come out to one or both Pre-Recruitment events.

2023 Pre-Recruitment Events

  • Wednesday, August 30 - Meet the Chapters
  • Friday, September 1 - Picnic with Panhellenic

PNMs should attend all recruitment events and keep an open mind throughout the recruitment process to have the best opportunities to join a chapter. Attendance at each day of formal recruitment is mandatory and PNMs must attend all of their scheduled events each day.  In the event of class, University commitments, or other previously scheduled conflicts, Panhellenic provides excuse forms to documents these excused absences.

2023 Formal Recruitment Schedule

  • Wednesday, September 6  - PNM Orientation
  • Friday, September 8  - Open House
  • Saturday, September 9 - Sisterhood Day
  • Sunday September 10 - Preference Night
  • Tuesday, September 12 - Bid Night

Still not sure if joining a sorority in the fall is right for you?  That's perfectly fine!  Some women wait a semester (or even a year or two) before deciding to join the Fraternity & Sorority Life community.  During spring semesters, some chapters hold informal spring recruitment to build their membership. Ask the Fraternity/Sorority Advisor about spring recruitment opportunities!

Please visit www.pepperdinepanhellenic.com download recruitment resources, register for Panhellenic recruitment, and learn about sorority life.

National Pan-Hellenic Council (Divine Nine) Recruitment Dates:

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), most commonly known as the "Divine Nine", is a national council of nine historically African-American Greek-letter organizations.  Pepperdine is proud to host two NPHC chapters, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.   While the chapters honor their proud heritage, membership into the NPHC is open to all students who are interested in the organization.  To be eligible to join an NPHC chapter, an undergraduate student must have completed one semester of college credit and maintain a C+ average or higher for their GPA.  First-year students are first eligible during spring semester and returning sophomores through seniors may join in the fall or spring terms.

Each chapter will advertise their own intake (recruitment) events so be on the look out for flyers and advertisement!

Come by HAWC 112 or email the Fraternity/Sorority Advisor  for more information about their membership intake processes.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) Recruitment

With one in five men fraternity-affiliated, fraternity life makes up a vital part of Pepperdine campus life. Pepperdine's Interfraternity Council (IFC) is a council of nationally recognized fraternities who are dedicated to service, campus involvement, academic excellence, and philanthropy.   Affiliated with the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), students can join one of the four member organizations at Pepperdine.  To join an IFC fraternity, a man must be a Pepperdine University undergraduate and register for formal recruitment (including a $20 recruitment fee).   Registration opens August 1, 2023 and closes Wednesday, September 6, 2023 by 11:59 PM.  No exceptions can be made for this deadline.

Because we know that there are a lot of questions regarding fraternity life, IFC hosts a Pre-Recruitment event prior to formal recruitment to allow potential new members (PNMs) an opportunity to meet fraternity men and ask questions about membership.  The Pre-Recruitment event is free, optional, and non-committal.  IFC highly encourages anyone who is even slightly interested in fraternity life to come out to Pre-Recruitment events.

2023 Pre-Recruitment Event

  • Thursday,  August 31 - Meet the Chapters

IFC recruitment takes place both on and off campus with different activities such as basketball, go-karts, beach days, the driving range, and lots of free food.   All fraternity PNMs are strongly encouraged to attend at least one event from every chapter, in order to meet the brothers, explore all your options, and determine whether each chapter's values align with your own.   You may attend as many open events across chapters as you like.

2023 IFC Fall Recruitment Schedule

  • Thursday, September 7 - PNM Orientation and Open House
  • Friday, September 8 - Thursday, September 14, 2023- IFC Chapter Open Recruitment Events (open to all PNMs)
  • Friday, September 15 - Final Impressions Night (the final opportunity to express your interest in membership with fraternities before invite-only events)
  • Saturday, September 16 - Interview Night (chapter invitation only)
  • Sunday, September 17 - Preference Night (chapter invitation only) & Bid Distribution
  • Monday, September 18 - Bid Signing Day / Bid Night (by chapter)

Still not sure if joining a fraternity this semester is right for you?  That's perfectly fine!  Some men wait a semester (or even a year or two) before making the decision to join the Fraternity & Sorority Life community.   Ask the Fraternity/Sorority Advisor about other recruitment opportunities!
