Updates on Pepperdine's Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Program

Over the past decade, Pepperdine has steadily grown its EV charging network from a small pilot program in 2014 to a robust system of 75 EV charging spaces across the Malibu campus—nearly four times more than just two years ago. Throughout this growth, the University has covered the cost of infrastructure installation and fully subsidized unlimited four-hour charging sessions for all Pepperdine community members.

To help support our expanding EV charging program and its infrastructure, while staying consistent with rates at other universities and the surrounding community, the following updates will take effect on August 1, 2025.

  • New Rate Structure: To help maintain the expanded network and cover rising energy and infrastructure costs, EV users will begin paying $0.35 per kilowatt-hour.
  • Time Limits: To promote fair use, charging sessions remain limited to four hours. After that, a fee of $20 per hour will apply for up to two additional hours, replacing the previous flat fee of $60 for exceeding the four-hour time limit.
  • App Access: Users are encouraged to download the ChargePoint app, which allows drivers to find available stations on campus and manage their sessions.
