Counseling Center Spring 2022 Groups & Offerings

The Counseling Center is pleased to share the official list of Spring 2022 Counseling Groups, Psychoeducational Workshops, and Support Groups. 

The Counseling Center stands ready to support students in person and virtually. Students can call the Counseling Center at (310) 506-4210 (this line is also open 24/7 for crisis support) or email student.counseling.center@pepperdine.edu to schedule an appointment and learn more about the services that are available. 

When you use your pepperdine.edu email, this gives you free premium access to the app Sanvello. With Sanvello, Pepperdine community members can track their mood and health habits, practice mindfulness and meditation, and build good daily habits to support their mental health. 

Spring 2022 Counseling Groups

Thrive!
Tuesdays @ 2pm, Wednesdays @ 5pm, Thursdays @ 11am

  • This is a one-time, 1-hour group that will help you understand key aspects of what it takes to grow and thrive in the midst of challenging circumstances. The group will explore why we get stuck in negative cycles and the importance of developing healthy habits to create lasting change. 

Finding Your Calm
Mondays @ 3pm-4:20pm, starting Feb 7th

  • This is a 6-week structured therapy group designed to help you learn effective strategies for coping with anxiety using cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness skills, and acceptance-based strategies. Group members will also have an opportunity to learn to work on self-criticism and explore personal values. (A 30-minutes group information session is required). 

Understanding Self and Others
USO Grad: Tuesdays @ 3pm-4:30pm, starting Feb 1st 
USO Undergrad: Wednesdays @ 1pm-2:30pm, starting Feb 2nd

  • This weekly therapy group is designed to foster greater self-awareness and more satisfying relationships by exploring how your background and upbringing affect your relationships, becoming more aware of your thoughts and feelings, and exploring your "here-and-now" feelings with other group members. (A 30-minutes group information session is required). 

Minding Your Mood
Wednesdays 2pm-3:30pm, starting Feb 2nd

  • This is an 8-week, skills-based group in which you can gain a deeper understanding of your experience of depression and learn effective strategies to help regulate your emotions and manage mild to moderate symptoms of depression. (A 30-minutes group information session is required). 

Psycho-Educational Workshop

Mindfulness Group
Fridays 12pm-1pm, starting Jan 28th

  • This weekly drop-in group is designed to help you spend more time living in the present moment. Weekly mindfulness practice may help you better manage challenging emotions or circumstances, while accepting things as they are in order to mindfully proceed. Each group has a different theme and usually includes introductory comments, guided meditation, silent practice time, and closing comments as well as offering a new daily life practice for the week.

Black Student Support Group
Thursdays 5pm-6pm, starting Jan 27th

  • The Black Student Support Group provides a supportive environment for Black students to connect, to share their experiences, to exhale and to receive and provide encouragement. For zoom link info, email jeffrey.williams@pepperdine.edu

Latinx Student Support Group
Tuesdays 3pm-4pm, starting Jan 25th 

  • The Latinx Student Support Group will provide Latinx students a space to build community and build a sense of belonging. Students will have the opportunity to discuss the experience of being Latinx on Pepperdine's campus, with the goal of feeling validated and seen. AAPI Student Support Group
Thursdays 4pm-5pm, starting Jan 27th

  • The AAPI Student Support Group offers a safe space for Asian American and Pacific Islander students to connect with peers, learn about helpful resources, and discover cultural strengths. For zoom link, email sophia.fang@pepperdine.edu or esther.lee2@pepperdine.edu 

Recovery Peer Support Group
Wednesdays 3pm-4pm, starting Jan 26th

  • Get the confidential support you need on your alcohol and drug recovery journey. Share your experiences, get connected with your peers, and know that you are not alone. For zoom link, email sophia.fang@pepperdine.edu

Holding Hope Grief Support Group
Wednesdays 1pm-2pm, starting Jan 26th 

  • For those wishing to explore, learn, and connect around topics related to grief - her in Holding Hope you don't have to grieve alone. The grief group is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life's most difficult experiences aiming to empower those struggling with loss. Veteran Student Support Group
Thursdays 12pm-1pm, starting Jan 27th 

  • The Student Veteran Support Group (SVSG) will offer a safe space, and foster a sense of community and belonging for veteran students. You can support each other and share your unique experiences. Healthy Body, Happy Mind For Student Athletes
Wednesdays 5pm-6pm, starting Jan 26th

  • HBHM group will provide a safe space for student-athletes who struggle with eating disorders and/or body images concerns. This group will foster a sense of connection in helping student-athletes feel understood, validated, and supported. For zoom link, email carrington.mahr@pepperdine.edu
