Under the Influence: Unraveling the Impact of Substance Abuse on Adolescent Brain Development Workshop

On August 25, 2023, from 9 AM - 12 PM PST, join us online for the Under the Influence: Unraveling the Impact of Substance Abuse on Adolescent Brain Development workshop.

In this workshop, Dr. Judy Ho, PhD, ABPP, ABPdN, CFMHE, presents an examination of adolescent brain development and how it is impacted through alcohol/substance misuse and process addictions.

Through the exploration of neuroimaging, assessment, and treatment studies, attendees will learn how the effects of adolescent exposure differ from adults; what unique neural, social, psychosocial, and environmental factors contribute to teen abuse risk; how to disentangle the multiple risk factors that contribute to teen alcohol, substance, and process addictions; and cognitive, psychological, social, and academic impact of addictions on teens. Attendees will learn strategies for comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations in order to accurately diagnose co-occurring disorders, tips for feedback with teen clients and their families, and ways to enhance treatment coordination with other professionals. Finally, the integration of neuroimaging and treatment studies, and the promising prospects for advancing the treatment of addictive behaviors in teens will be discussed.

At the end of this workshop, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe multiple risk factors that contribute to teen addictive behaviors.
  • Analyze neuroimaging studies that show the impact of addiction on teen brains.
  • Discuss the psychological, social and academic impact of teen addictive behaviors.
