Recidivism, What Can We Do?
The School of Public Policy's Diversity and Belonging Committee is honored to host Captain Roel D. Garcia and Custody Assistant Alexander Tomilin for an engaging discussion regarding Recidivism on April 1 at 12:00 pm.
Recidivism is one of the fundamental concepts of criminal justice. It refers to a person's relapse into criminal behavior, often after the person receives sanctions or undergoes intervention for a previous crime. Leaving prison should mean having a fresh start, but many citizens are bombarded by a host of new challenges. Re-entering society can be overwhelming for many reasons, and unfortunately many people end up back in prison. In the United States the rate of recidivism is as high as 70% within five years of release.
Join us for an engaging and information conversation about what can be done to reduce recidivism rates and help citizens successfully re-entry society.
