Preserving the History of South Los Angeles Presentation and Reception
Thursday, December 7 • 12:00 – 1:00 PM • Payson Library, Surfboard Room
Pepperdine Libraries have recorded oral history interviews with African American community
members from Los Angeles as part of a broader effort to preserve the voices and lived
experiences of this community. With support from the California Humanities, this work
is a part of the "Preserving the History of South Los Angeles" initiative.
Specifically, the libraries spoke to elders in the community who come from a faith background, especially one rooted in the Church of Christ tradition, and who have uplifted their community through their work. Most of their interview participants also have a connection to Pepperdine or its former campus, which was in South Los Angeles from 1937-1981. Please join the University community for lunch and discussion with interviewees as we celebrate the launch of an official website for the project. Register for the event.
