Volunteers Needed for Natural Science Division Research

Volunteers are needed for research on dietary supplements for reducing racial disparities in blood pressure.

WHAT: The effects of beetroot juice and vitamin C on blood pressure in Hispanic women.

WHY: To better understand certain dietary factors contributing to racial disparities in the cardiovascular health of premenopausal women.

WHO: Pre-menopausal woman (>18 years old), no hormonal contraceptive use, Hispanic descent, do not exercise, have a regular menstrual cycle, non-smoking, no cardiovascular or metabolic disease.

WHERE: Keck Science Center Rm 170, Pepperdine University, 24255 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90263

MEASUREMENTS: Total 5 visits over ~4 months:

  • Blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight
  • Lean and fat mass
  • Blood draw and cheek swab
  • Stress questionnaire

POTENTIAL BENEFITS: You will be compensated $125.00 upon completion of the study and will receive information related to your health.
