New AI Essentials Training from Pepperdine IT

Have you wondered what Generative AI tools can do to assist your work as Pepperdine Staff and Faculty? Are you concerned about where and when it is safe to enter information into AI tools? To aid in these and other AI-related questions, IT Training is excited to announce new Generative AI Essentials training opportunities starting later this month!

The Generative AI Essentials training will set you on the path to using Generative AI tools appropriately in your everyday workflows and writing processes, making it easier to create quality content faster than ever. IT Training will provide context and clarity for when these tools can be used safely and efficiently, following proper data security guidelines.

If the session you want to attend is full, sign up for the waitlist and more sessions will be added based on interest. Additional workshops include Google, Peoplesoft. Review the entire schedule for January and February for training designed for Faculty and Staff.

Faculty Focus: Turnitin Detection and Gradebook Gains

In February, TechLearn will showcase the latest features and improvements of Turnitin, the plagiarism detection service available in the Courses LMS. TechLearn will also offer a workshop highlighting the tips and tricks any faculty member can use in their Courses Gradebook to improve the student learning experience. 

In the Turnitin: Guidelines & Best Practices workshop on January 31 at 11 AM, TechLearn will walk you through the fundamentals of plagiarism and AI detection at Pepperdine, including:

  • Pepperdine's Turnitin Policy
  • Turnitin Best Practices
  • The Boundaries and Expectations for Plagiarism and AI Detection

In the Courses: Gradebook workshop on February 2 at 10 AM, you will learn how to:

  • Update the grading schema
  • Set categories and weighting
  • Link assignments and quizzes to the Gradebook
