Rwanda Supreme Court
Overview
- 1 placement available with the Chief Justice
- 2 Units
- Zoom meetings with CJ to review assignments and receive new assignments (9-10 hour time difference)
Work Expectations

Rwanda Court of Appeals
Overview
- 1 placement available with the one of the justices on the Court of Appeals
- 2 Units
- Zoom meetings with Justice to review assignments and receive new assignments (9-10 hour time difference)

Ghana Supreme Court
Overview
- 1 or 2 placements available with the Supreme Court
- 2 Units
- Zoom meetings with Justice's to review assignments and receive new assignments (7-8 hour time difference)
Work Expectations
- Unit hours fulfilled and all projects fulfilled
- Business Professional attire for Zoom meetings

The Process
Qualifications
Eligibility
- Completed at least one year of legal education
- Diplomacy: Must be able to navigate complex relationships and interests
- Core Competencies: Humility, Integrity, Loyalty, Joyfulness, Teamwork, Initiative, Creativity, Timeliness, Professionalism, Flexibility
- Exhibits a passion for global justice and human rights
- Able and willing to travel to the developing world
- Cross-cultural experience preferred, but not required
- Grades will be considered as part of the application process. If grades are below a 3.0 GPA, your application will not be considered. You may pursue an appeal, and to do so, you must submit a one-page memo to our team explaining why you believe you should be considered despite not meeting the GPA requirement.
- Pepperdine law students will receive priority. Law students from other universities may apply, but positions are subject to availability once all Pepperdine applicants have been considered and selected.
Ineligibility
- If at any time a student's GPA is below a 3.0
- If a student is placed on disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion
- If a student fails to complete two full-time semesters of law school prior to externship
Application
The application for the fall semester is usually open in the month of July and early August. Students can expect to receive a prompt confirmation message when the application is received by our team.
Students will receive an email once the application period has closed invited to interview with the Director.
After the initial interview we will alert students within a week of our decisions.
Decisions
Students will be requested to make a decision whether they accept or decline the position within one week of the offer.
Orientation
You can expect the director of the program to walk through some basic cultural training before your first call with your judge. The Director will also help facilitate setting up your first Zoom call to get your internship started. Those that thrive in this externship are self-motivated and have a high standard of excellence in everything they do.
