The U-Pass College Student Program with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority
(WMATA) University Pass is designed to ensure students have affordable and convenient
access to DC’s public transportation system. It allows students to explore the nation's
capital, experience its rich history, and commute to campus at a low cost. The DC
Metro also provides a safe and reliable form of transportation for students commuting
to and from school. Traveling to all areas of the city is made very simple using the
Metro. The FAQ section below provides additional information on the U-Pass.
How much is the U-Pass card?
The U-Pass card requires a per-semester payment of $120.00. Recipients of a card will
be permitted unlimited rides on the Metro Rail and Metro Bud throughout the semester
for the equivalent of $1.00 per day. Students will pay via the Pepperdine ecommerce
website only at _________________.
How do I pay for the card?
Pepperdine University has provided a secure website for students to transmit payment
for their card. The website can be accessed through __________________________________.
Are there any restrictions on which Metro lines or stops I can use with my card?
Students will have access to ride on any train or bus operated by Washington Metropolitan
Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The pass cannot be used on MetroAccess paratransit
services or regional partner services such as ART, Ride On Express, etc., at this
time.
Are there certain hours of the day that I am allowed to use the card? What about weekends?
The card is available for use during all hours of operation.
What happens in case of a lost, damaged, or stolen card?
If a card is lost, damaged, or stolen, you may purchase a replacement card for $20.00.
A replacement card can only be purchased once per semester.
How long can I use the card? Is it good for a semester or all year? Can the card be
used in the summer?
The card is good for one academic semester. The student pass is active only during
academic semesters and is not available during the summer break.
How many rides can I complete in a day?
There is no cap on the number of rides a student can take on any given day. Students
have unlimited access to WMATA trains and buses.
What is the refund policy?
All card purchases are final and non-refundable.
I have ordered my card, where do I pick it up?
Cards are available for pick up on the fifth floor of the Pepperdine University Washington,
DC, Campus. The campus is located at 2011 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC, 20006.

Is the card only assigned to me or can others use it?
The card may only be used by the person that it is assigned to. Sharing your card
with others is strictly prohibited.
Can I transfer funds from my Smart Trip card to my U-Pass?
At this time students may not combine Smart Trip funds with the U-Pass.
What are the rules of riding on WMATA?
Riders must use their authorized pass, refrain from eating or drinking, and only listen
to audio using headphones. Do not lean against the doors or stand within two feet
of the platform. Riders should be aware of their surroundings and courteous of others.
Where can I go on Metro trains and Metro buses?
The Metro trains and buses go throughout the entire DC metropolitan area as well as
some of the surrounding Maryland and Virginia. A map app, such as Google Maps, will
show you all available routes and lines to take throughout the city.
Can I use my pass to get to and from the airport?
The Metro will take you to Washington Dulles International Airport as well as Ronald
Reagan Washington National Airport.
How close is the nearest Metro stop to the Pepperdine DC campus?
There are multiple bus and train stops within a few blocks of the campus. The Foggy
Bottom GWU Station is located 0.3 mile from Pepperdine’s campus. The Farragut West
Station is just 0.2 mile away. It is very easy to walk to and from these various stops.
