Learn about Artificial Intelligence, and how it can improve your surfing.

As the final minutes of 2023 wind down, we wanted to provide the Pepperdine community with a heads up for 2024. The Information Technology Annual Review (ITAR) customarily shares the department’s key projects and other successes for the previous year, and we will certainly include those elements for 2023 as well. But this year, readers are in for something a little different. We will be focusing on various aspects and applications for Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Pepperdine University.

Here are just a handful of stories from this year’s digital publication:

  • The Pepperdine student and surfer who found a way to use Artificial Intelligence–along with some fast-food condiment packets–to improve his surfing skills while blazing a trail for others.
  • The Seaver College instructor who is part professor, part Hollywood stunt woman, and part circus performer who conducted an AI literature review with students from her classes as a means of measuring student perceptions of AI’s usefulness and accuracy.
  • A discussion on AI perceptions, applications, and potential gains at Pepperdine that includes faculty, IT staff, and student success that extends all the way to the New England Journal of Medicine.

And, so we could put AI to work in a structured-yet-creative manner, we’ll be including several images that were either created or augmented by AI in the publication’s layouts that draw their inspiration from famous movies as a means of telling these stories.

The 2023 IT Annual Review is coming in January to your inbox and to the IT homepage. Watch for it!
