FAQs

What kind of support can the Student Care Team provide?

We are positoned to help students by connecting them to a number of resources. These can include referrals for clinical therapy, linkage to academic support, student accessability, housing assistance and more.

Can the Student Care Team send notifications to my faculty when I request them?

The Student Care Team works directly with OneStop to evaluate requests for faculty notifications as needed. This includes, but is not limited to situations such as death of a loved one,  an emergency hospitalization or a different type of crisis. Notifications are requested for no more than two days. Outside of the emergency reasons, students are encouraged to work directly with their facutly to address any absences and missed coursework. If students are missing classes due to illness, they are encouraged to contact their faculty directly to discuss their options.

Can the Student Care Team help with my tuition?

The Student care team is not positioned to provide support with tuition costs. However, a case manager stands ready to explore how we can be supportive in other ways. 

Can the Student Care Team help with my on-campus housing?

The Student care team is not positioned to provide support with on-campus housing. However, a case manager stands ready to explore how we can be supportive in other ways. 

Can the Student Care Team help with holds on my student account?

The Student care team is not positioned to provide support with holds on their account. Students are encouraged to reach out to their financial aid office to inquire about clearing any holds. 

What is case management? 

Case management is assessment and linkage to resources that could be beneficial to the student.

What does the Student Care Team case manager do, and how can they help me?

Case managers are positioned to walk alongside students to support them with financial, emotional, housing and academic concerns. They can help link or refer to campus resources, community resources and help to navigate through the institution. 

Are case managers confidential resources?

The case managers are not confidential resources and they are not positioned to provide counseling or therapy services. However, they can work with you to help connect you with a provider or the Counseling Center on campus. Is the stipend from the Student Care Team a loan?

The funds provided are not a loan, however they are taxable income.

Do I have to pay it back?

The funds do not need to be paid back.

Who is eligible for Student Care Team funding?

To be eligible for funding from Student Care Team, you must be an enrolled student at the University experiencing acute financial harship.

How do I apply for funding from the Student Care Team?

There is no application process for funding. We ask that you email us to schedule time to speak with the case manager. At that time, the case manager will explore and assess how we can be supportive to you. 

Is the Student Care Team stipend monthly?

Student Care Team does not provide an ongoing monthly stipend, the stipend is provided for acute financial hardship. However, for students in need of long term support we encourage them to work directly with their financial aid office and assigned advisor. 

Can the Student Care Team provide financial support for Bar prep?

Unfortunately we can not provide financial support for Bar prep. We encourage students to reach out to the law school's financial aid office to explore any additional financial support in preparation for the Bar exam.

What should I do if I am concerned about a student?

We invite you to email your concerns to the Student Care Team and we will coordinate outreach to the student.  If there is an immediate safety concern, please contact DPS at 310.506.4441 or dial 911.
