Origin and Identity of the Stone-Campbell Movement

Pepperdine is a Christian University with its heritage rooted in the Churches of Christ, of which George Pepperdine was a lifelong member. It is in large part due to this affiliation that our University simultaneously remains committed to the Christian faith while also welcoming people from all backgrounds into its community.

Human Resources and Pepperdine Libraries' Rushford Center are pleased to present "Origin and Identity of the Stone-Campbell Movement" by Dr. James Gorman, professor of history at Johnson University in Knoxville, TN. The presentation explores the history, beliefs, and practices of the Churches of Christ, offering a foundation for understanding its ongoing influence at Pepperdine. Whether you are familiar with this faith tradition or only recently learned about the Churches of Christ through your work, Dr. Gorman's talk will provide fresh insights into the historical foundations of the tradition while inviting reflection on its continued role in shaping our shared work.

This event is open to Pepperdine faculty and staff. Following Dr. Gorman's talk, attendees are invited to a reception in the second-floor area of Payson Library adjacent to the Rushford Center.
