Amazon Web Services Service Outage

AWS Outage Updates: Monday, October 20

A miniature road crew work on an over-sized computer keyboard around a key labelled "Service Outage."

An Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage caused major disruptions around the world. The service provides website and remote computing services to many governments, universities, and companies. Pepperdine IT became aware that some University or school-based services were impacted, whether with sluggish performance, inconsistencies/errors, or a full outage.

System Statuses as of October 22, 2025 at 10:32 AM Pacific:

*After each vendor issued the all clear, some acknowledged that post-resolution, it may take a few hours for all services to return to normal performance levels. Others noted that resolutions were staggered to restore primary services first, then add ancillary services afterward. Refer to the individual system notices for more details.

As of October 20, 2025 at approximately 4 PM Pacific, Amazon reported that the root cause of all issues was addressed and service was restored. Some vendors required additional time to restore different websites, apps, and services even after AWS provided the all-clear notice. Be sure to check each vendor's outage notices to confirm whether each service has been fully restored.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as our vendor partners worked to resolve this outage.
