Download Your Sakai LMS Data

Community access to Courses ends on May 31, 2026.

Pepperdine is making the leap from Courses to Canvas LMS.

Overview

As of Fall 2025, Pepperdine University officially adopted Pepperdine Canvas as its primary learning management system, replacing Sakai (aka Courses). Part of the ongoing LMS Transition includes ending access to the old LMS. The last day to access Sakai/Courses will be May 31, 2026.

Save Your Sakai Data Now!

Please do not wait until the last moment. We encourage all students, faculty, and staff to carefully review their Sakai data and download any content for safekeeping before the May 31 deadline. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Students: Please review any old courses and determine if there are any course materials, submitted assignments, grades, discussion forum posts, or any personal files you wish to keep. If you used a project site for collaboration or a student group, be sure to download any important content.
  • Faculty: Visit your past courses and determine if there are any course materials you wish to repurpose or artifacts of learning you wish to keep for program review. This may include documents, syllabi, student assignment submissions, gradebooks, discussion topic archives, or any other data in your course or project sites that you wish to save.
  • Staff: Determine if you have any collaborative project sites, committee sites, training content, or other materials you wish to preserve.

Checklist for Your Data Review

  1. Do you already have copies of the data? You may have the original copies of select content on your computer, so you may not need to download everything.
  2. Did you migrate sites to Pepperdine Canvas? If you are an instructor and you have already migrated sites to the new LMS, then you likely don't need to download the course content. You should only consider whether grades or submitted assessments (assignments, discussions, tests/quizzes) should be preserved as learning artifacts for program assessment or accreditation review.
  3. Consider FERPA, Copyright, and Data Privacy. Some LMS data are considered academic records. Be sure to safeguard records and honor any instructor or publisher copyright or privacy notices.
  4. Did you hide any old class or project sites? Visit "Worksite Setup" on your "Home" tab to locate all sites.
  5. Did you store any files in your account's personal Resources? Go to the "Resources" tool on your "Home" tab to view any personal files.
  6. Did you use any Sakai Project Sites? Refer to the Legacy Project Sites page for additional information.
