Student Worker
Most foreign students have an F-1 visa. A person with an F-1 visa can work on campus. Contact Student Employment before hiring. Their taxation depends on a couple of factors:
- Is there is a tax treaty between the United States and the person's home country and
- Is the person a resident alien or a nonresident alien? (This is according to the IRS definition).
To determine this, they will need to make an appointment with Patty Culley in the Payroll Office. The student will need to be prepared to bring any or all of the following forms:
- Passport and visa
- I-20
- Most recent I-94 From this website: US Customs and Border Protection - I-94 Website
- I-94
- I-797
- DS-2019
- Social Security Number or receipt of application
They also will need to complete the following form before they come in for their appointment: Foreign National Information Form. To assure that you have the all the information needed to process a payment for an international student please use the following check lists.
