BSM FAQs

Read answers to common questions about the BSM program.

Is it possible to waive certain BSM courses?

Students may be eligible for the waiver of up to 12 units of BSM course content, based on courses completed prior to entering the Program. BSCI 468 and STGY 479 may not be waived. Requests for waivers may be considered in the areas of accounting economics, information systems, production and management, and statistical methods, if a student has previously taken coursework with equivalent unit value and comparable content as the BSM course for which the waiver is sought. The previous coursework must have been completed with a grade of "B" or better within 7 years as of the time the waiver petition is submitted.

What is the process for requesting a BSM course waiver?

The waiver request is initiated by the student (via e-mail to the Program Advisor) and must be accompanied by: (a) a catalog description, (b) syllabus, and (c) official university transcript indicating the successful completion of the course(s) relating to the BSM course to be waiver. Other documentation may be requested, as necessary, to make an informed decision on the waiver request.

For the purposes of accurately determining program requirements and establishing a degree completion plan, course waiver requests should be submitted and approved by the end of the student's first trimester in the BSM Program.

What are my opportunities for continuing onto the MBA after I complete the BSM Program?

Graduates of the BSM Program at the Graziadio School, upon meeting certain GPA and course content requirements, have a unique opportunity to transition into the Fully Employed MBA Program and complete it in an expedited fashion through either the MBAJ or Pathways option.

What are the eligibility requirements for the MBAJ Option?

The MBAJ option is available to candidates who will have completed the BSM Program with a cumulative program GPA of 3.4 or higher. Students must formally apply for MBAJ consideration, and the admission decision is made by the Fully Employed Programs Admissions Committee. Although it is possible to complete the MBAJ in as few as 30 units, the actual unit requirement will be determined by an evaluation of previous coursework and performance in the BSM Program. Thus, BSM students are highly encouraged to consult their Program Advisor in delineating a program completion plan for optimal eligibility and preparation for the MBAJ.

What are the requirements for the Pathways Program?

The Pathways-to-FEMBA option is available to candidates who will have completed the BSM Program with a cumulative program GPA of 3.0 - 3.39 and have acquired a minimum of 3 years' work experience. A formal application for Pathways-to-FEMBA must be submitted, and the admission decisions is made by the FEMBA Admissions Committee. The minimum number of units required for the completion of the Pathways-to-FEMBA option is, in part, determined by the student's overall GPA in the BSM Program. Additional unit requirements may apply, based on the evaluation of previous coursework and performance in the BSM Program.

When Can I Apply for the MBAJ and FEMBA Pathways Program?
Students who have completed 40 or more units in the BSM Program are eligible to apply. Applications and additional eligibility details are available through your Program Advisor.
