Transcript Example: Pepperdine University Introductory College Tour YouTube Video

Overview

This page provides an example transcript for the University's introductory college tour video hosted on YouTube.

Transcript

Music opens over a montage of images that represent Pepperdine University:

  • An aerial view of the beautiful Malibu, California campus, bathed in bright sunlight at the edge of the deep, blue Pacific Ocean. The view shows dormitories, academic buildings, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a baseball diamond, and many other features of the campus.
  • An ocean scene of surfers catching 5-foot, curling waves.
  • A close-up aerial shot of the Phillips Theme Tower at the front of the Malibu campus, with its cross displayed before the backdrop of the Pacific.
  • A yoga class held at sunset with students shifting poses on the green expanse of Alumni Park.
  • A final shot of the Malibu main campus academic buildings, surrounded by the green grasses of the Santa Monica Mountains.

The video transitions to a portrait shot of the main speaker, Alex Boylan, a middle-aged man with a close-cropped beard, a navy button-down shirt rolled up to the elbows, and mala bead bracelets.

Alex: "Welcome, everyone, to Pepperdine University."

The scene shifts to the statue of George Pepperdine.

Alex: "In 1937, George Pepperdine's founding vision was that of a university committed equally to academic excellence and Christian values."

Scenes depict the exterior of a Malibu classroom, a live class held in the Elkins auditorium, a student taking notes, and a group of students hiking to a hilltop that highlights a Christian cross monument.

Alex: "Now, Pepperdine is a nationally ranked institution of higher education where more than 3,500 undergraduate students are being strengthened for lives of purpose, service, and leadership."

Scenes showcase a busy campus quad of students moving to and from classes, the cafeteria, or the bookstore; they walk up steps to the next level of buildings, chat with one another, and laugh together. The scene shifts to graduation, where students wear Pepperdine blue gowns and toss their mortarboard hats in the air. Ending with a student standing tall in front of a display of American flags on Alumni Field in front of campus.

Alex: "Nestled between the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean..."

Scenes feature the majestic Santa Monica Mountains and a sweeping view of the Malibu coastline, with crashing waves and the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean.

Alex: "...Pepperdine is located in Malibu, California..."

A US map shows California rising in dark blue, with an arrow pointing to Malibu on the coast.

Alex: "...a relaxed coastal community, just 10 miles outside the city limits of Los Angeles."

Scenes shift between Zuma Beach with sunbathers and a lifeguard hut to an aerial view of downtown Los Angeles with skyscrapers, palm trees, and a freeway.

The view returns to the speaker.

Alex: "I'm your host, Alex Boylan, and over the next half-hour, we're going to meet 10 passionate Pepperdine students..."

The view shifts from a female student in Stauffer Chapel, to a male student standing on a patio overlooking the tennis courts, to a male student wearing a Pepperdine Basketball hoodie in the Waves team room, and to a female student standing by the trees in Alumni Park.

Alex: "... who have been challenged academically, travelled the world, held spectacular internships, participated in undergraduate research..."

Scenes transition from a male student walking along the large, atlas wall by the International Programs office in Malibu, to students learning in a science lab, and to students conducting an experiment in a science lab. 

Alex: "... pursued athletic excellence, explored their faith, engaged in meaningful service, made lifelong friendships, and so much more. "

Scenes highlight a men's baseball player hitting a homerun, students singing together in the amphitheater, a Christian band performing, students raking and cleaning as community service, and a group of students laughing together in a dorm suite.

After a quick montage of Malibu campus scenes, the video returns to the narrator.

Alex: "I promise, you're going to love it here. Welcome to Pepperdine University! This is the college tour."

The video zooms out to a wide, aerial view of the Malibu campus in bright, afternoon daylight. The title "The College Tour" appears in white lettering above the campus scene.

Video ends.
