Central Receiving and Shipping's primary responsibility is the receiving and shipping of goods and materials for the University, students, faculty and staff via ground transportation.

Shipping

Shipping is primarily a UPS Ground shipper. When you need to send a package out the package must be in Central Receiving by 3:00 PM. Departmental shipments must be accompanied by a Shipping Request Form. For larger shipments, a trucking company may better suit your needs. The sender is responsible for making arrangements with the trucking company for pick up of the items and completing the bill of lading for the shipment. The method of payment for shipments is collect or prepaid.

Receiving

Central Receiving receives packages daily. Students receiving packages via UPS or other ground courier will be sent a notice when a package arrives. Faculty and Staff receiving packages via UPS or other ground courier will have them delivered by our delivery service. All materials received against a purchase order, at Central Receiving, are entered into the PeopleSoft System accordingly (partial or complete). If you need to inquire about or confirm the receipt of an order, you may do so by calling Central Receiving at ext. 6293.

Delivery

Mail Services delivers all materials received at the Central Receiving area or ordered from the Warehouse stock. If you have any items that must be delivered with a priority status, please notify Central Receiving as soon as possible. We will make arrangements to have your package held for pick up at Central Receiving.

General Distribution

Mail Services provides general distribution to all Pepperdine staff, faculty, and students. Fill out the distribution form and send the number of copies requested on the form to Mail Services for distribution.

Forwarding Services

Students, see "Student Mail."

Mail Services does not set up mail forwarding for departments. It is the former department's responsibility to prepare mail that needs to be forwarded for an employee who is working in a new department. If the individual is no longer with the University, only First Class and Priority Mail may be forwarded without payment of additional postage. To forward mail, readdress it and write "forward" on it. It is not necessary to repackage the item.

Express Services

Departments are responsible for preparing outgoing mail; addressing, wrapping, filling out customs forms, and identifying the class you wish to mail the item. Mail Services will not supply customs forms, but will supply expedited mail labels and envelopes, and UPS shipping supplies

Always separate campus mail, international, and unsealed mail from regular mail by binding with an elastic band. All outgoing mail requires a return address with the departmental mail code. Mail Services will meter only mail that is official University business.
