Applying for a Second Passport
What is a Second Passport?
Students who require a visa for their program and who will be traveling internationally in the 90 days prior to their program departure may be required to obtain a secondary passport. This will allow them to travel freely while also submitting one of their passports to a consulate for visa processing. Check here to determine if a second passport is necessary, and learn how to apply for a second passport.
Students who are required to obtain a second passport must have it in their possession by the date communicated by International Programs.
Real ID and Studying Abroad
What is a Real ID?
Beginning May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license, state-issued enhanced driver's license, or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States.
If a student is studying abroad in a future spring term and plans to travel domestically during the preceding fall term, they should obtain a REAL ID-compliant driver's license as soon as possible. This will prevent any travel conflicts during the time your student may be required to release their passport as part of a visa process. Learn more about REAL ID here.
Passport and Visa Photos
What are Passport and Visa Photos for?
In addition to the two passport photos needed for a new passport, all program participants must bring two additional passport photos in their emergency envelope. These photos will be used in case the student's passport is lost or stolen. Additional photos may be required as part of the visa process as well. Passport photos can be purchased at most drug stores or post offices.
Contact the The Malibu IP Office to inquire whether or not passport and visa photo services are available on the Malibu campus the IP Office. If offered, you must bring exact cash and avoid wearing a hat, sweatshirt or white clothing.
