 Organize Everything (Advanced)

Gmail

Your inbox is not for storage. But how are you supposed to keep up with the constant onslaught of incoming emails?

Organize everything in your Gmail Inbox until the only thing left are emails that require action. In this course, we will show you techniques and strategies to maximize your time by using:

Calendar

Who, what, where, when, and why. With so much to consider, how do you coordinate it all?

Organize everything on your schedule with Google Calendar. Using Google Calendar lets everyone involved always know who, what, where, when, and why. In this course, we will show you techniques and strategies to maximize your time by using:

  • Find a Time
  • Appointment Slots
  • Office Hours
  • Duplicate and Copy To
  • My Calendar vs. Other Calendar
  • Create a New Calendar
  • Visibility Permissions
  • Attachments

Audience: Pepperdine University employees with a solid foundation in Google Calendar, interested in widening their range by using these advanced features. For introductory users, please see the "Google Essentials: Calendar" class offering.


Drive

My Drive or Shared Drives? That is the question everyone keeps asking. In this training, we will give you the answer to this common question and walk you through how to really organize everything.

You'll also find out some tips and tricks to get your projects done better, faster, and more efficiently when you can communicate and collaborate seamlessly with your team in Drive. In this advanced course, we will:

  • Highlight the core differences between Shared Drives and My Drive
  • Demonstrate the collaborative advantages of Shared Drives
  • Introduce File Stream and the benefits it brings to your workflow
  • And provide file management tips that make it easy to find your files

PREREQUISITES: To attend this advanced training, you must first attend either Google Essentials: Drive training or New Employee Technology Orientation offered by IT Training.  You can also test out of the prerequisite training by emailing IT.Training@pepperdine.edu, and we will send you a proficiency quiz.

After completing the quiz, you may sign up for the Organize Everything: Shared Drive training. Audience: All Pepperdine University employees and faculty with a firm grasp on creating and sharing files in Drive using My Drive.

 

 Google Essentials (Beginner)

Gmail

This 60-minute, hands-on training session will provide staff with real-time training in using Gmail. Central to this classroom/lab training are practical exercises designed to provide experience and boost your confidence in using Gmail.

In this training, you will:

  • Navigate within Google Mail and tailor your inbox preferences
  • Learn tips and tricks to compose, send, and read email, including conversation/thread view
  • "Archive" your email as well as set up and use labels for increased efficiency
  • Search your email
  • Set up and use filters

Audience: Any Pepperdine University employee new to Gmail or looking to deepen their understanding of Gmail's core components. For advanced users, please see the "Organize Everything: Gmail" course offering.


Calendar

This 60-minute, hands-on training session will provide staff with real-time training in using Google Calendar. Central to this classroom/lab training are practical exercises designed to provide experience and boost your confidence in using Google Calendar.

  • Views (day, week, month)
  • Creating an event
  • Settings
  • Defaults
  • My Calendar vs. Other Calendars
