Preparing your Canvas Site for Students to Access Panopto Recordings

Overview

Learn how professors will add the Panopto tool to a course site so that students can create their account and authenticate with the course site.

What Does It Do?

Panopto is a powerful video management platform that allows professors to embed or link videos into a Pepperdine Canvas class site. Students can access these recordings within Pepperdine Canvas on their computers or mobile devices.

How You Can Use It

  • Store instructional videos and media in Panopto.
  • Save Pepperdine Canvas storage space by embedding the instructional videos (on Pages, in Modules, in Assignments, in Discussions, etc.).
  • Provide options to track student engagement with course videos via Panopto.
  • Students can view, search, and comment on the videos (if enabled by the instructor).

Instructions

  1. Add the Panopto Tool to your Pepperdine Canvas class site menu and make it visible to students.
    • To ensure that students have Panopto accounts and are associated with your class site, be sure that students can see the Panopto tool.
  2. Go to your Pepperdine Canvas class site.
  3. Choose "Settings" in the main course menu.
  4. Choose the "Navigation" tab.
  5. Locate the Panopto tool.
    • If the tool is in the bottom section titled "Drag items here to hide them from students," be sure to drag the tool up to the main menu section, or use the "more options" button (3 dots icon) and choose "Enable."
  6. If necessary, move (drag and drop) the Panopto tool to a desired location in the course menu.
  7. Scroll down and select "Save" to complete the process.
