Standard (Analog) Telephone Reference Guide
Here are quick step-by-step guides for basic calling functions on a standard (analog) telephone. This reference guide relates to the familiar 12 numeric,*, and # buttons.

Call Holding
To place a call on hold:
- Flash the switchhook
- Press *4
To retrieve a call on hold:
- Flash switchhook or lift handset
- Press *4
Call Waiting
To accept a waiting call:
- Flash switchhook
- Press *4
- Hang up handset
- Second call will ring the extension of the phone in use
- Lift handset
To alternate between calls:
- Flash switchhook
- Press *4
Transfer Calls
To transfer an existing call:
- Flash switchhook
- Press *1
- Listen for dial tone
- Key-in extension number
- Announce call, if desired
- Hang up handset
Abbreviated Dialing
To store an abbreviated-dial number:
- Lift handset
- Press #4*
- Key-in one or two digit reference number
- Listen for confirmation tone
- Key in the number that needs to be stored
- Listen for confirmation tone
- Hang up handset
To place an abbreviated-dial call:
- Lift handset
- Press #4
- Key-in one or two digit reference number
Conference Calls
To set up a three-way conference:
- Flash switchhook
- Press #1
- Listen for dial tone
- Key-in internal or external number
- Announce conference, if desired
- Flash switchhook
- Press #1 to connect callers
- Repeat above steps to add additional parties
Callbacks
If the extension is busy:
- Flash switchhook
- Press *7
- Listen for confirmation tone
- Hang up handset
- There will be three short rings when the called extension is no longer busy
- Lift handset
To leave a message if no answer:
- Flash switchhook
- Press *7
- Listen for confirmation tone
- Hang up handset
To return a callback message:
- Lift handset
- If there is a message waiting, the word "MESSAGE" is repeated three times
- Press *7
To queue if all lines are busy:
- There will be a callback announcement
- Press 5
- The system will announce a three-digit queue number
- Hang up handset
- There will be three short rings when a line is available
- Lift handset
- System will repeat three-digit queue number
Call Forwarding
To activate:
- Lift handset
- Press *3
- Listen for confirmation tone
- Key-in number where calls are to be forwarded
- Listen for confirmation tone
- Hang up handset
- The word "FORWARD" is repeated three times each time someone attempts to obtain dial tone
To cancel:
- Lift handset
- The word "FORWARD" is repeated three times
- Press #3
- Listen for confirmation tone
- Hang up handset
Last Number Redial
To redial the last outside call:
- Lift handset
- Press #9
Call Park
To park a call:
- Flash switchhook
- Press *9
- System will announce a parking number
- Hang up handset
To retrieve a parked call:
- Lift handset
- Key-in parking number
Call Pickup
Group:
- Lift handset
- Press #7
- Any ringing extension in the pickup group will be answered
Extension:
- Lift handset
- Press #7
- Listen for confirmation tone

Do Not Disturb
To activate:
- Lift handset
- Press *6
- Listen for confirmation tone
- Hang up handset
- The word "PRIVATE" is repeated three times each time someone attempts to obtain dial tone
To cancel:
- Lift handset
- Press #6
- Listen for confirmation tone
- Hang up handset
