Overview

All current Pepperdine University students, faculty, and staff can access Pepperdine on Coursera. For a small fee, this platform gives you access to credit and non-credit online courses created by faculty and field experts with Coursera Partners. With your Pepperdine email address, you can discover new interests or further develop your current skills. Learn at your own pace and receive a Pepperdine/Coursera completion certificate to build your resume and post on LinkedIn.

 

Sign Up

If you are new to Coursera, the signup process is quick and easy! Follow the steps below. If you already have a Coursera account, please review the options in the "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) section below.

  1. Click the "Sign In to Coursera" button above.
  2. Click the "Join" button on the "Pepperdine on Coursera" page.
  3. Click the blue "Log in with Pepperdine University" button.
  4. When prompted, enter your Pepperdine credentials on the Pepperdine CAS single sign-on page.
  5. On the resulting "Welcome to Coursera, Start your program" page, select "I'm a new Coursera user" and click "Continue".
  6. On the account setup page, enter a new password (that is NOT your Pepperdine password; this must be a new, unique password). Click "Continue".
  7. On the "Safeguarding Your Privacy" page, select the box to accept the Coursera policies and then click "Continue".
  8. On the "Join the learning program" page, click the button "Join program".
  9. Done! You may now browse the catalog and sign up for Coursera classes.

  What is Coursera?

Coursera is an educational technology company based in Mountain View, California that offers online learning opportunities to millions of learners around the globe. Pepperdine is a member of the Coursera Partner Consortium and this opens a catalog of courses to members of the Pepperdine community. Pepperdine also has the opportunity to offer certificate courses on the Coursera platform as part of our growing online learning offerings

  How do I sign up? I'm new to Coursera and I want to get the free "Pepperdine on Coursera" account.

  How do I sign up? I already have a Coursera account with my Pepperdine email address and I want to take advantage of "Pepperdine on Coursera".

Please follow the steps below to join your existing Coursera account to "Pepperdine on Coursera".

  1. Verify that you signed up with your full, formal Pepperdine University email address.
    • Log into your existing Coursera account at Coursera.org.
    • Click your account profile at the top right.
    • Select Settings.
    • Verify that the email address listed is the full, formal Pepperdine University email address, e.g. firstname.lastname@pepperdine.edu or similar.
    • If you accidentally signed up with your NetworkID@pepperdine.edu alias, simply edit the email address to the full version and "Save" the change. Open your Pepperdine email and follow the Coursera instructions to verify the email change.
    • Don't receive an email? Double-check that you entered your email address correctly.
    • Once you verified the email change, sign out of Coursera by clicking your account profile and selecting "Log Out".
  2. Now, let's join "Pepperdine on Coursera".
    • Sign In to Pepperdine on Coursera.
    • Click the blue "Log in with Pepperdine University" button.
    • When prompted, enter your Pepperdine credentials on the Pepperdine CAS single sign-on page.
    • Once authenticated, you should see the "Join the learning program" prompt. Click the "Join program" button.
  3. Done! You may now browse the catalog and sign up for Coursera classes.
  How do I sign up? I already have a Coursera account with my personal (non-Pepperdine) email address and I want to take advantage of "Pepperdine on Coursera".

Coursera only allows one account per person. To take advantage of the "Pepperdine on Coursera" service, it's an easy process to update your existing Coursera account email address from your personal email address to your full Pepperdine email address and then link to "Pepperdine on Coursera."

  1. Start with your personal Coursera account.
    • Log into your personal Coursera account at Coursera.org.
    • Click your account profile at the top right.
    • Select Settings.
    • Change your email address from your personal email address to your full, formal Pepperdine University address (e.g. firstname.lastname@pepperdine.edu or similar). Click "Save" to record the change.
    • Check your Pepperdine email and follow the instructions to confirm the email change.
    • Don't receive an email? Double-check that you entered your email address correctly.
    • Once you verified the email change, sign out of Coursera by clicking your account profile and selecting "Log Out".
  2. Now, let's Join "Pepperdine on Coursera".
    • Sign In to Pepperdine on Coursera.
    • Click the blue "Log in with Pepperdine University" button.
    • When prompted, enter your Pepperdine credentials on the Pepperdine CAS single sign-on page.
    • Once authenticated, you should see the "Join the learning program" prompt. Click the "Join program" button.
  3. Done!  You may now browse the catalog and sign up for Coursera classes.
  How do I sign in? I already registered for "Pepperdine on Coursera" but I forgot how to log in.

  1. Sign In to Pepperdine on Coursera.
  2. Click the blue "Log in with Pepperdine University" button.
  3. When prompted, enter your Pepperdine credentials on the Pepperdine CAS single sign-on page.
  4. Done! You may now browse the catalog and sign up for Coursera classes.
  How do I enroll in a Coursera class?
  1. Sign In to Pepperdine on Coursera.
  2. If the "Join" button displays, click "Join" and then click the blue "Log in with Pepperdine University" button to authenticate.
  3. Once on "Pepperdine on Coursera", find and click a class from the catalog.
  4. From the class description page, click the blue "Enroll" button.
  5. Done!
  Can I get academic credit for Coursera offerings?

Coursera courses are non-credit offerings and do not provide professional or academic credits. If you complete a course, you may receive a certificate of completion. You can post your completion to your LinkedIn profile.

  Are there other professional development resources at Pepperdine?

Yes! All current students, faculty, and staff can take advantage of LinkedIn Learning at Pepperdine. All current University employees can attend workshops and seminars hosted by IT Training and Human Resources. All current faculty can participate in faculty development programs offered by IT's Technology & Learning team and school centers for teaching excellence such as Seaver College and PGBS.

  How do I set an alternate or personal email account so I can keep my Coursera achievements after I graduate or leave the University?
  1. Sign In to Pepperdine on Coursera.
  2. Click the blue "Log in with Pepperdine University" button.
  3. When prompted, enter your Pepperdine credentials on the Pepperdine CAS single sign-on page.
  4. Once logged in, click your account profile at the top right.
  5. Select Settings.
  6. In the "Personal Account" section, enter your personal email address in the "Add Alternative Email" box.
  7. Double-check the spelling since you will not be able to change the email address later.
  8. Click "Save".
  I am about to graduate or leave the University. What should I do before I lose access to my Pepperdine account?

To maintain access to your Coursera achievements, you should delink your account from "Pepperdine on Coursera" and then change your email address to your personal email address.

  1. Delink your account from the "Pepperdine on Coursera" program.
    • Sign In to Pepperdine on Coursera.
    • Click the blue "Log in with Pepperdine University" button.
    • When prompted, enter your Pepperdine credentials on the Pepperdine CAS single sign-on page.
    • Once logged in, click your account profile at the top right.
    • Select Settings.
    • Scroll down to the "Organization Account" section.
    • Click the "Delink my organization account" button.
    • Follow any instructions to complete the process.
    • To log into your Coursera account in the future, you will go to Coursera.org.
  2. Change your email address to your personal email address.
    • Log into your Coursera.org account. Use the forgot password process if necessary to reset your password for Coursera.
    • Once logged in, click your account profile at the top right.
    • Select Settings.
    • Change your email address from your Pepperdine address to your personal email address.
    • Double-check that you spelled your personal email address correctly.
    • Click "Save".
    • Open your personal email address and look for the email verification from Coursera. Follow any instructions.
    • Don't receive an email? Check your spam filter or double-check that you entered your email address correctly in your Coursera profile.
